Athens, the city of antiques.
On July 26, 2013, I went out with my aunt to take a look at traffic lights in the city of Athens, AL. Athens has a lot of 4-ways within it's city limits. Not only does it have 4-ways, it has a pair of TSI pedestrian signals, Several 12-8-8 traffic lights, and plenty of 8 inch traffic lights. There are also Singers and Safetrans, however, Athens has mostly Durasigs of both 8 inch and 12 inch variety. Athens also has three mechanical controllers left along with a couple of pavement signs. Most of this page will be dedicated to photos of the traffic lights with some commentary about the traffic lights and intersections.
The first intersection with two Eagle 4-ways and a mechanical controller. These replaced a TSI-style 4-way. The wire loop for the 4-way can be seen next to the 4-way on the left in the first picture.
The second intersection with two Eagle 4-ways as well. There are also 2 Eagle flat-back pedestrian signals and two TSI pedestrian signals at this intersection. This intersection is controlled by a mechanical controller.
The Eagle Flat-back pedestrian signals:
The TSI pedestrian signals:
The third intersection. This intersection has a pair of Sargent Sowell 4-ways at it. I do not know what controls these lights because I did not see a controller at this intersection.
The fourth intersection. This intersection has two Teeco 4-ways with Eagle Flat-back pedestrian signals and a mechanical controller.
The fifth intersection. This intersection has all 12-8-8 Eagle Flat-back traffic lights.
The sixth intersection. This intersection has a very weird span-wire setup with five 8 inch Eagle Flat-backs, a 12-8-8 Eagle Flat-back, and two Durasig traffic lights. One of the Eagle Flat-backs has two red lights for some reason.
The seventh intersection. This intersection has three 12-8-8 Eagle Flat-backs, two 8 inch Eagle Flat-backs, and a Sargent Sowell 3-way signal with TSI blank doors. Two of the Eagle Flat-backs have two red lights for some reason.
